Stories of Transformation - Tanya
Summary
A family medicine physician from Tampa developed severe uveitis (eye inflammation) in her 20s while studying for medical school boards, waking up in the middle of the night with her eye throbbing in severe pain - her roommate rushed her to the hospital where they said she could go blind from this very serious condition and put her on steroids. From the stress of medical school, she also developed severe neck arthritis and was diagnosed with HLA-B27, with doctors saying she needed surgery or could be paralyzed. At one point she was refractory (not responding to treatments), doctors said they could inject her eye with steroids, told her there was no cure and her vision may never fully come back, and she literally couldn't see out of her right eye for a day. During the Wednesday walking meditation at the retreat, she woke up seeing white dots (little snowflakes) and the floaters that doctors said would never go away were gone - the white dots gradually disappeared leaving her in peace and bliss. The second walking meditation released the severe neck arthritis (the crunching when looking up stopped), and she feels blessed to avoid neck surgery and all steroids/medications/narcotics, learning meditation with depth and intention, realizing vision is a choice and she can create a new identity and design - excited to share this with her patients facing terminal diagnoses.
